SFA band auditions and showcase saturday

Last weekend I had my audition to get into both the school of music and the flute studio. I couldn't possibly express how nervous I was! My audition was at 10:40, so I went an hour early to warm up and such. While in the warm up room, I was getting very discouraged listening to all the other potential music majors and hearing how great they sounded. When it had finally gotten to be my turn, I started to freeze up, but thankfully the person before me took longer than suspected so i got to talk to the room monitor and get my nerves out. Little did I know that I would have to be playing in front of the ALL of the woodwind instructors...VERY intimidating. In the end, I think I did pretty well. When the instructors got a break in between auditions I got to speak with the flute instructor. Anddd....She told me that I made it into the flute studio and the school of music. Mrs. Guenther was very energetic and nicce. I can't wait to start working with her! I am SO incredibly excited that I'm getting the chance to pursue my dream of working with music and doing what I love every day!

That saturday I also got the chance to go to SFA's Showcase Saturday, which I highly recommend going to if you plan on going to SFA in fall. The next one is on march 31st (maybe, not too sure). We got a chance to tour all of the dorm facilities and they also had a financial aid seminar, an academic fair, and you could also have one of the students give you a tour through the university and tell you about a few of their traditions, which i had already done thanks to my highschool taking me a few weeks earlier. I can honestly tell you that after going to showcase saturday I have for sure decided to go to SFA. All of the staff and students are so nice and welcoming. and the facilities are VERY nice. The only dorms I got a chance to tour due to the time I had was Wisely and the Lumberjack Landing. The best dorm there is by far the Lumberjack Landing which was built last year(??) and is only for incoming freshman. So I'm hoping to be living there my freshman year! The two dorms I toured had a laundry room on each floor and the best part is that its free to clean your clothes. No having to keep a roll of quarters in your pocket each time you go to the laundry room. The academic fair was very informative! I found out that I could possibly get into the school of honors, which would mean free prining and I would get to register for classes when seniors would (awesome!). I'll find out in a couple weeks if i got accepted into it. While at the academic fair I also got to meet a few fellow flute players and they were also really nice. At the end of your touring which is close to 4 or 5 you get a chance to get a free SFA shirt all you need to do is fill out an easy, short questionairre thing.

If you have any questions about the band or SFA, ask away and I'll try my best to answer.
